Yellow weather warning in place this week across Northern Ireland

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds of up to 70-80 mph this week affecting parts of Northern Ireland.

The wind warning will be in place between 00:00 and 23:59 on Wed 5th Oct 2022.

In addition, heavy rain may prove an additional hazard across northwestern areas.

What to expect 👇

- A small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected.

  • A slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.

- Large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties

Today: A cloudy day with some patchy rain spreading northeast in the morning, especially across the far west. Mainly dry in the afternoon although some rain at times in the west, strong winds around the coast. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight: A windy night but dry at first with the odd clear spell in the east. Rain spreading east later in the night but clearing by dawn. Minimum temperature 10 °C. ****

Tuesday: Early rain clearing the east by mid morning and turning drier and brighter through the afternoon. Westerly winds easing too. Further rain likely later in the evening. Maximum temperature 15 °C. ****

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: An Autumnal theme with wet and windy conditions on Wednesday, possibly very windy for a time. Turning cooler with blustery showers for the end of the week.****
