Met Office 'Amber' warning in place as ex-hurricane Ophelia approaches
70-80mph gusts expected during evening rush hour
Last updated 16th Oct 2017
The Met Office is forecasting a spell of potentially very windy disruptive weather for Monday.
Hurricane Ophelia made landfall in the Republic of Ireland this morning and Northern Ireland is expected to feel the full effects of it later.
Thousands of homes in Cork are already without power.
The Met Office has updated its 'Amber' warning valid from 1200 to 2300 for damaging gusts of between 70 to 80mph in exposed parts of the country.
As a precaution, schools and colleges across the country are closed this morning.
Delays and disruption to public transport is expected. There is a chance of damage to buildings such as tiles from roofs and disruption to power supplies. Sea fronts will be affected by spray, large waves and there is potential for coastal flooding.
The worst of the storm is expected to hit during Monday's commute home and into the evening.
It will remain unsettled into Tuesday.
The latest advice is to keep checking back with the forecast, as further warnings and updates are likely to be issued.
