Easter Tuesday is shaping up to be a chilly one, with sub-zero temperatures, early morning frost and snow showers expected,

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for Northern Ireland.

According to The Met Office; "Wintry showers will persist through the night onwards into Easter Tuesday morning accompanied by windy conditions will lead to patchy accumulations of 2 to 4 cm snow in some places, mainly inland and on hills."

A yellow weather warning is in affect until 10am Easter Tuesday covering counties Antrim, Derry~Londonderry, Tyrone, Down, Fermanagh and Armagh.

It's not as uncommon as you might think – in fact, we're actually more likely to see snow at Easter than at Christmas.

This Evening and Tonight:

Clear intervals and further snow showers. The snow showers will be most frequent over northern counties and will give some fresh accumulations, especially over high ground. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Easter Tuesday:

Another day of sunny intervals and occasional wintry showers of hail or snow. Further accumulations on hills but generally melting on roads by day. Cold northerly winds. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Less cold on Wednesday with some showery rain. Thursday breezy with some rain in the afternoon. Then colder again on Friday with sunshine and wintry showers.
