After an unseasonably warm start to autumn, forecasters are warning about a potential “shock to the system” later this week

Temperatures are expected to dip with a blast of arctic air set to bring us our first taste of winter.

According to the Met Office; "Much colder weather will establish itself across all parts by Friday. The cold feel will be exacerbated by strong northerly winds. These will blow in plenty of showers, turning wintry, especially across the high ground of northern Britain. Widespread overnight frost is likely."

No official warnings have been issued, it's unlikely any snow showers will settle at lower levels.

With night time temperatures expected to fall below zero, drivers may have to brace themselves for frost in the mornings - worth stocking up on de-icer.

We have had it so good recently, it had to turn cold at some point.
