Snow showers are expected to develop through Thursday night lasting through rush hour Friday which could lead to locally very poor travel conditions.

A statement on the Met Office website says: "Rain, sleet and hill snow is expected to clear late evening, clearer conditions will spread to all parts by early Friday morning. Ice is expected to form as skies clear. Heavy snow showers will follow, and these will be most frequent across Northern Ireland where 2-5 cm may accumulate above 100m with some snow to low levels too."

"Temperatures will fall quickly allowing ice to form on untreated pavements, cycle paths and roads. Some injuries from slips and accidents on icy surfaces are possible. Some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services."

The main snow and ice warning is in place from 00:05 Friday to midday.
