Off the back of a blockbuster summer, the cinema industry in UK has united to celebrate the ritual of cinema-going and the important place it has in the lives of the UK public.

In 2019, the UK experienced an impressive rate of cinema-going, with 2.6 annual visits per capita*. What better way to celebrate that than to come to the cinema and enjoy a movie on National Cinema Day.

Award-winning Irish filmmaker Emer Reynolds, commented: "There's nothing quite like the magic of cinema; experiencing the shared waves of emotion; laughing and crying in the dark among strangers! It's one of life’s great joys! I can’t wait to celebrate National Cinema Day in my local cinema, revelling in the epic power and beauty of the Big Screen!"

Paul Anderson, Director of Omniplex Cinemas also added, “We are delighted to participate in National Cinema Day by offering £3 tickets for all shows, all day, including new releases. It is important for the industry to celebrate cinema and what better way to do that than by enjoying a movie (or two) on 3rd September 2022. There will be something for everyone to enjoy. See you on Saturday, and remember, book early to avoid disappointment!”

Tickets can be purchased through the websites of participating cinemas and at the box office from Monday August 29th.

Check out some of the biggest movies still to come this year 👇

Pinocchio

Release date: 8th September
Another live-action remake for us all to get excited about! Disney's classic Pinocchio is being brought back to life, with the cast including huge names such as Tom Hanks, Luke Evans, Cynthia Erivo and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Don't Worry Darling

Release date: 23rd September
1D star Harry Styles is back on the big screen opposite Florence Pugh in director Olivia Wilde's follow up to 2019's Booksmart. We can't wait to see what this film has in store for us when it releases this Autumn.

Hocus Pocus 2

Release Date: 30th September
Yep, you read that right! 1993 Disney classic Hocus Pocus is officially returning with a sequel, and will land on Disney+ on Friday 30th September.

My Policeman

Release date: 21st October
Starring in yet another film, Harry Styles will be returning to the big screen in October 2022 in My Policeman, an Amazon Original film which will land in UK cinemas on 21st of that month, before becoming available globally on Prime Video from 4th November.

As well as Harry, the film will star Emma Corrin, Gina McKee, Linus Roache, David Dawson, and Rupert Everett, in a 'beautifully crafted story of forbidden love and changing social conventions'.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Release date: 11th November
This year we return to Wakanda. This is a somewhat sad return following the untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman. It's a good thing his role wasn't recast as he really cannot be replaced, but his absence will definitely be felt. We're sure the supporting cast of the first film will be able to step up, however, and keep the spirit of Wakanda alive.

Avatar 2

Release date: 16th December
Whilst many films releasing this year have been delayed, none have experienced as many delays as the long awaited sequel to the 2009 smash hit Avatar. We can't quite believe that it's coming out this year, but it really does seem to be the case. Best get rewatching the first film before Avatar 2 releases later this year.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Release date: 23rd December
2022 really is the year for musical biopics, and we are very excited for this one. The perfect film for fans of the singer and the newly converted. The perfect way to wrap up a year of incredible cinema.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody

Release date: UNKNOWN
This is not a drill. Elle Woods is back for Legally Blonde 3 - we can't wait to see Reese Witherspoon back in what is no doubt her most iconic role. We've really been needing some of that pink positivity in our lives (especially in the last two years), and we are so excited to see Elle and her chihuahua back on the big screen. Like many films releasing this year, it's production was delayed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but it looks set to finally be released this year, much to our delight.
