Man arrested after viable explosive device found at flat in Newtownards
Suspected firearms were also discovered
A man in his 30's has been arrested after a viable explosive device was found at a flat in Newtownards.
Homes close to the property on Rosevale Avenue area were temporarily evacuated yesterday.
The device has now been made safe and taken away, along with suspected firearms.
The 34-year-old is being questioned on suspicion of making explosives under suspicious circumstances, possessing a firearm in suspicious circumstances, and possession of a class C drug.
The PSNI has thanked local residents who were affected by the security alert for their patience.
Officers remain at the scene as enquiries continue.
