A number of vehicles have been damaged in what the PSNI said was an arson attack in Derry last night (Monday).

An investigation is under way after the incident in the city around 11.30.

Initially, two vehicles were reported to be on fire in the Grainan Drive area.

Police and the Northern Ireland Fire Service attended the scene.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage.

In addition, two other vehicles were also damaged as a result of the fire.

The Fire Service believes the cause of the blaze to be deliberate and so the incident is being treated as arson.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Fortunately, there have been no injuries.

"However, a number of people are now in a position of having to sort out their transport problems and the disruption associated with that, and any other associated costs.

"Our appeal is to anyone with information, or who saw any suspicious activity in the area last night to get in touch with us. This also extends to anyone with CCTV or doorbell cameras to check their footage."

The spokesperson added: "Call 101 with information, quoting reference number 2091 of 12/03/24 or, make a report online via https://www.psni.police.uk/report or Crimestoppers, which can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
