Finalists for the 2021 New York Radio Awards have just been announced, with Downtown Country’s very own Stuart Banford shortlisted for Best Country Format.
The Radio Awards receives entries from radio stations, networks, and independent producers from over 30 countries around the globe. Stuart is up against some stiff competition, including country legend Keith Urban in the same category.
Finalists are critiqued on production values, writing, creativity, direction and achievement of purpose. These awards spotlight storytellers who are using all of their creativity to engage with their listeners.
Speaking on his fantastic achievement Stuart comments: “When Downtown Country first launched, a lot of people thought that a country station in Northern Ireland wouldn’t work, so to be recognised like this on a global scale is a huge honour! Getting the opportunity to chat to some of my musical heroes has been a dream of mine, I’m just glad so many others love what we do each day.”
Bauer Media NI's Managing Director David Tighe added: "I am thrilled that Stuart and Downtown Country have made the shortlist in the event that is the Oscars of the radio business! I am delighted that his dedication and knowledge of country music has shone through to the judges via his brilliant radio show. Well done Stuart and indeed all at Downtown Country, who deliver engaging content each and every day for a growing audience who love the station – roll on the awards ceremony later in the year!”
Rose Anderson, VP/Executive Director of the New York Festivals Radio Awards commented: “Across all genres, finalists proved that radio – the original social medium – is robust and thriving. From podcasts and audiobooks to sound art and breaking news, these talented storytellers bring the world together and engage in real time.”
Winners will be announced on October 12th at the annual storytellers gala taking place at NAB in Las Vegas.
Congratulations Stuart & good luck!
