Karen Bradley faces largely the same dilemma as her predecessor James Brokenshire today.

She'll be asked to provide MP's with an update on progress here, but the problem is, it doesn't seem like there's been much.

On Monday, the parties met for the first time for all party roundtable talks. By all accounts, it was more of the same, with the DUP saying big and significant gaps remain between themselves and Sinn Fein.

The UUP and SDLP have called for the contents of previous discussions between the two main parties to be made public, given there were rumours a deal was close last year.

And Alliance have said the process needs to be truly inclusive, rather than simply bringing in the so-called smaller parties as a gesture of goodwill.

So Mrs Bradley finds herself in a position where she maintains a deal is still possible, but while the talks are ongoing, she won't be able to share the reasons why she thinks that.

All parties are due to meet again for more talks tomorrow
