Newry: security alert under way after suspicious object is found

A security alert was under way today (Thursday) in Newry.

A controlled explosion has been carried out on a suspicious object in the Monaghan Street area which has been cordoned off.

The object has been taken away for forensic examination.

Police are urging the public to avoid the area at this time.
