Over 135 school closures across Northern Ireland on 10th March 2023

Widespread snow and hazardous ice conditions have led to a number of schools closing across Northern Ireland today.
Eastern areas of NI have an amber warning for snow and ice in place until 10am this morning (Friday 10th March), with 10-20cm of snow possible over high ground and 4-8cm of snow quite widely away from immediate coasts.
High winds are creating dangerous conditions on the road, with significantly deeper snowdrifts possible.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “With some strong winds accompanying these snow showers, blizzard conditions are likely for a time in northern England and Wales, as well as parts of Northern Ireland. Ice will be a continuing hazard for many in the forecast period, with very low overnight temperatures likely to exacerbate continued likely travel disruption.”

Friday: A cold but mainly fine and dry day tomorrow with just the odd shower. Generally light winds. Maximum temperature 6 °C.
Outlook for Saturday to Monday: A dry and bright start on Saturday but rain or sleet soon pushing in from the southwest. Further bands of rain on Sunday and Monday with drier interludes between.
