Police in Northern Ireland say a man they previously described as unlawfully at large has been found and is in police detention.

35 year old Sean Megaw was on compassionate release for a funeral on Saturday but didn't return.

A PSNI spokesperson on Monday said: "The 35 year old, who was sentenced for attempted GBH with intent in 2023, was on compassionate release from prison to attend a funeral on Saturday, 26th August. Megaw was released at 10am and due to return at 3pm, but failed to so do.

"He was arrested at an address in Belfast following police appeals to trace his whereabouts."

At the time he went missing, Detective Inspector Bell said, “Megaw, who was sentenced for attempted GBH with intent in 2023, was on compassionate release from prison to attend a funeral on Saturday, 26th August. Megaw was released at 10am and due to return at 3pm, but failed to so do.”
