The first stop in a number of engagements throughout the day was the County Antrim town of Ballymena.

The Prince officially opened the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service’s new state-of-the-art £5.6m station.

He talked with local politicians and staff, before unveiling a plaque and touring the building where he saw the work of the Hazardous Area Response Team.

His second engagement of the day was at the Mac theatre where he met members of the leading peace-building charity on the island of Ireland.

Co-operation Ireland has worked for almost 40 years to build a shared and cohesive society within Northern Ireland and across the Irish border.

The organisation's aim is to promote dialogue and practical collaboration within Northern Ireland and with the Republic of Ireland.

In 2012 it hosted a historic and highly symbolic handshake between late Sinn Fein deputy first minister and life-long republican Martin McGuinness and the Queen.

Prince Harry will then head to a garden party at Hillsborough Castle hosted by the Secretary of State.

A similar event was attended last year by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
