Police have had to close some roads in Portrush because of high congestion this Easter Monday.

The seaside town on the North Coast is a popular destination for families enjoying the long weekend.

A statement from the PSNI said, “Due to high congestion and full capacity at all carparks in Portrush, road closures are being implemented at Metropole Corner,Dunluce Avenue, and Causeway Street. Only vehicles exiting the town will be facilitated until roads are cleared of congestion. Please use alternative routes”

An earlier statement also said “Traffic is currently very busy in Portstewart and Portrush, with limited carpark spaces. Motorists should follow directions given by police and park appropriately, observing parking restrictions.”
