Detective Sergeant Gardiner said: “ Between 7am and 9am, attempts were made to rob an off licence on the Castlereagh Road and a shop on the Beersbridge Road.

"On both occasions no money was taken. In a third incident on the Belmont Church Road at around the same time a man entered a shop armed with an iron bar and made off with a small sum of money.

"A fourth incident was reported to police at around 1.30pm when a shop on the Newtownards Road was entered by a man armed with a knife.

"A sum of money was handed over before the man made off from the scene.

"We believe at this time that there were two or more individuals involved in these incidents and they may have been travelling in a silver coloured Vauxhall Insignia car.

"A 34 year old man was arrested in connection to the incidents but has since been released on bail pending further police enquiries.

"There were no reports of any injuries.”
