Pat Jennings statue unveiling to go ahead as planned
It's after the Northern Ireland goalkeeping legend took ill at last night's Tottenham v Chelsea match
The unveiling of a statue to Northern Ireland goalkeeping legend Pat Jennings will proceed as planned tomorrow in Newry.
It's after he reportedly took ill as he attended last night's Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea Premier League match in London.
The 78-year-old, who played for both Spurs and North London rivals Arsenal during a distinguished playing career that saw him win 119 caps for Northern Ireland, playing in both the 1982 and 1986 World Cups, is an ambassador for Tottenham.
In a statement released by the Friends of Big Pat Committee, PRO Kevin McAllister said the plans to unveil the statue of Jennings are still on course.
"On behalf of the friends of Big Pat Committee I would like to inform everyone that this wonderful occasion of the official unveiling of his statue on Wednesday 8th November at Kildare Street Newry will proceed as planned.
"Yesterday evening Pat was feeling unwell as reported in the media, however he would like to assure his many well wishers and fans that he is okay to continue, and after some further rest today looking forward to unveiling his statue in his home city of Newry, Northern Ireland."
