NI Covid deaths down again

The total number of deaths in Northern Ireland linked to coronavirus now stands at 2,614.

A further 103 deaths involving the virus occurred in the week from January 23 – 29.

That is 21 less deaths than the week before.

According to latest figures from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency 1,676 (64.1%) deaths took place in hospital, 737 (28.2%) in care homes, 13 (0.5%) in hospices and 188 (7.2%) at residential addresses or other locations.

There were 750 deaths in 174 separate homes and hospices.

How does NISRA’s Coronavirus figures differ from the Department of Health’s?

While the departmental death toll is reported on a daily basis the statistics agency reports its Covid-19 data with a week lag.

The NISRA figures are based on the information entered on death certificates, completed by medical professionals.

They may or may not have previously tested positive for the virus.

However, the Department of Health’s figures are based on patients having previously tested positive for the virus.

What are the Department of Health current Covid-19 figures?

Its total number of deaths now stands at 1,966 which is 648 less than NISRA’s.

Yesterday (Thursday) the daily dashboard showed a further 9 people died after contracting the virus.

A further 253 people tested positive from 1,806 individual tests.

While, 518 hospital inpatients currently have Covid, and there are 58 currently in ICU.

There are 80 live Coronavirus outbreaks and 34 ICU beds remain empty at this time
