The number of weekly Coronavirus related deaths has fallen for the fifth week in a row.

The total number of deaths in Northern Ireland linked to Covid-19 now stands at 2,816.

A further 44 deaths involving the virus occurred in the week from February 20 -26.

According to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, 1,837 of that total (65.2%) took place in hospital, 760 (27.0%) in care homes, 14 (0.5%) in hospices and 205 (7.3) at residential addresses or other locations.

There were 774 deaths in 177 separate homes and hospices.

How does NISRA’s Coronavirus figures differ from the Department of Health’s?

NISRA data provides a broader picture of the impact of Covid-19 than the death toll reported by Stormont's Department of Health.

The department's statistics focus primarily on hospital deaths and only include people who have tested positive for the virus.

NISRA obtains its data from death certificates on which Covid-19 is recorded as a factor by a medical professional, regardless of where the death took place or whether the patient tested positive.

What are the Department of Health current Covid-19 figures?

Its total number of deaths now stands at 2,066 which is 750 less than NISRA’s.

Yesterday (Thursday) the daily dashboard showed 3 more people died after contracting the virus.

A further 163 people tested positive from 1,669 individual tests.

While, 257 hospital inpatients currently have Covid, 29 of which are currently in ICU.
