A Co Down man has died after getting into difficulties in the sea off Cornwall.

The 43 year old – believed to be from the Newry area - was pulled from the water off Prussia Cove by lifeguards last Friday.

The man was recovered from the water by a lifeguard and brought into Praa Sands. He was treated by ambulance but pronounced deceased at the scene.

Efforts to locate next of kin continue but this death is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

Penlee RNLI Lifeboats, Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team and the Newquay Coastguard helicopter attended the incident, alongside Praa Sands Beach Lifeguards, air ambulance and ambulance, and Devon and Cornwall Police.

A file is to be prepared for the coroner in relation to this matter.
