Man released after terrorism arrest, but re-arrested on suspicion of 'benefits fraud'
A 32-year-old man arrested in Strabane on Saturday has been released unconditionally under the Terrorism Act, but has been re-arrested under PACE legislation.
He had been detained on suspicion of membership of a proscribed organisation - the New IRA.
However, he has now been re-arrested on suspicion of benefits fraud and being involved in an illegal lottery described as ‘E2 Republican Prisoners Portlaoise’.
Police have warned members of the public those tickets are illegal to buy.
