Man left with 'substantial' head injuries in Newtownabbey attack

The PSNI launched a probe after dashcam footage of the incident was circulated on social media

A man has suffered what the PSNI says are substantial head injuries in a Newtownabbey assault.

Police received a report shortly before midnight on Friday night that a man had been knocked unconscious in the street in the Tynan Drive area.

The man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

A 27-year old man has been arrested.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, and witnessed what happened, or who may have mobile footage or information that could help with our investigation, to call detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1945 of 20/01/23.”
