A man's due in court later, charged over a security alert in North Belfast that led to Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney being evacuated from a peace building talk.

A van driver was forced to travel to the venue at gunpoint last Friday with, what he thought was, an explosive device.

A 40-year-old man's accused of preparing terrorist acts, hijacking, and causing a bomb hoax.

A police statement last night said, “Detectives from Terrorism Investigation Unit investigating a security alert and hijacking in the Crumlin Road area of north Belfast, on Friday 25th March, have charged a 40 year old male with a number of offences.”

“He has been charged with Preparation of Terrorist Acts, Hijacking and Placing an Article Causing Bomb Hoax.”

“He is due to appear before Laganside Magistrate Court tomorrow (Thursday 31st March).”

As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
