Homes evacuated as police deal with east Belfast security alert

Police say road closures were in place early on Thursday evening following a security alert in east Belfast.

It followed the discovery of a suspicious object in the Glenlea Park area.

A number of residents were evacuated from their homes.

A cordon is in place at the junction of Garnerville Road and Glendhu Park and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.
