Belfast Zoo have announced that their latest baby Rothschild’s giraffe is a boy!

Born to experienced mother daisy on 14 July, the week old has been delighting both visitors and staff. The mother and son have stayed inside the giraffe house for a few days together to give them plenty of bonding time.

A shortlist of four names has been drawn up by the animal care team at Belfast Zoo.

Voters can choose between...

🦒 Ballybracken

🦒 Ballymoe

🦒Ballytober

🦒 Ballyrobert

Voting will close on Friday 26 July at 4pm via Belfast Zoo's Facebook page

Zoo manager, Alyn Cairns, commented, “Rothschild’s giraffes are one of the most endangered of the giraffe subspecies. While giraffes inhabit savannahs and grasslands across Africa, the Rothschild subspecies only exists in small numbers within protected areas in Kenya and northern Uganda. Since we became home to the species in 1988, we have celebrated the arrival of over 40 calves and we are delighted to welcome the new addition to the family!”

Visitors have a chance to see the newest arrival in the zoo’s giraffe house. The zoo is open every day 10am – 6pm with last admission at 4.30pm
