Police say they are concerned after a gun was found near a waste ground in west Belfast.

The firearm was discovered in the Ross Road area on Monday, October 29.

Detective Sergeant Doherty said: "This is another firearm taken off the streets of Belfast which could have been used in crime.

"The worrying thing is the manner in which this firearm was found.

"This is a residential area where many families live many with small children."

He added: "Enquiries are continuing and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 560 29/10/18.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
