A Londonderry GP has branded the Altnagelvin Covid centre a "war zone' and said it was on the verge of "saturation."

Dr Paul Molloy said over twenty patients had attending the site on Monday evening and staff were under extreme pressure.

Speaking to Downtown Radio and Cool FM he warned: "Two or three more very sick patients on top of what was already there would have tipped the whole situation beyond saturation point".

He said the centre is seeing more people in one day now than they were seeing in a week in April.

On Tuesday, the Department of Health said 286 patients were in hospital with Covid-19, while 29 people remain in ICU.

The death toll recorded by the department now stands at 624.

Dr Molloy said it was very important that people now obey the rules.

"There are more people being seen at the covid centre in one day now than we were seeing in a week in April," he added.

"A significant share of these patients are unwell needing hospital admission and intensive care.

"It is really important that we stop the exponential spread of this virus by being very careful."
