Five escape serious harm in Belfast house fire

Five people have escaped serious harm following a house fire in south Belfast on Saturday night.

Five people escaped serious harm in a south Belfast house fire.

Crews responded to a call at around 10.30pm, where a man and woman were trapped in the attic room of a house on Magdala Street in the Holy Lands area.

The blaze was started by a chip pan in the kitchen.

Two other people had escaped the house before crews arrived, while another man suffered burns to his hand after entering the house and trying to put out the fire.

A spokesperson from NIFRS said: "Thanks to the excellent advice given by Control staff and the fast response by the Fire Service, these people were able to be rescued from this accidental fire.

"Chip pans should never be left unattended and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind the public of the importance of having a working smoke alarm."
