NI Secretary of State James Brokenshire confirmed on Monday that the money would be released separately, as he put forward legislation to pass a budget for NI int he House of Commons.

There had been previous questions over whether the NI Executive could recieve the money if it was not up and running.

The DUP had negotiated a £1bn deal to support Theresa May's government in certain circumstances, in the wake of the poor general election performance by the Conservative Party in June.

The £50m represents the first money to be confirmed for NI as a result of that arrangement.

The budget that Mr Brokenshire put forward would see the Civil Service locally gain access to 95% of last year's budget.

The move came as late as possible as the parties continued talks to try and re-establish an Executive at Stormont.
