DUP officials are expected to meet later to decide on a timetable for electing a new party leader.

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and Edwin Poots are both battling it out for the role.

Arlene Foster is stepping down as party leader at the end of this month, and as First Minister at the end of June.

Over the weekend Edwin Poots’ campaign manager made an early claim to already have “received endorsements from a majority of the electoral college”.

To win, a candidate will need to secure 18 votes.

The leadership contest is the first in the party's 50-year history.
