Armed officers stopped a taxi on Spring Garden Street in the Ballybough area of the city, around six on Friday evening.

It is believed six kilograms of the explosive and detonators were found in the vehicle.

Gardai say the search was part of an ongoing operation into dissident republican activity.

Residents were evacuated from their homes and nearby businesses closed as the bomb squad was brought in.

The men, reportedly in their twenties, are being held at Clontarf garda station and are being questioned under the Offences Against the State Act.
