Shots have been fired at Enniskillen Police Station, it’s been reported.

The PSNI says a public safety operation was conducted by police this afternoon (Monday 15th March), after police were informed about a shooting and a suspicious device in the Shore Path area.

It's alleged a known code-word was used, however, detectives are yet to find any evidence of such a shooting or device.

Chief Inspector Robert McGowan said: “Police received a report at 2pm on Monday 15th March that a number of shots had been fired at the police station, and that a suspicious device had been left in the Shore Path area.

“A thorough search and proactive policing operation was carried out, with nothing untoward found in the Shore Path area, and no reports of any shots fired at the police station.

DUP Leader Arlene Foster has expressed concern over the alleged incident.

Mrs Foster, the MLA for Fermanagh & South Tyrone said: "Even if this latest claim turns out to be a hoax it raises concern and causes disruption within Enniskillen.

“This serves as a reminder of the bravery of our security forces who place themselves in harm’s way to protect us as a community.

“It is clear however that there remains those within our community who offer nothing other than violence and the threat of violence in order to advance their warped agenda.

This comes only a few days after reports of a device left in the Newtownbutler area. There must be a united response from across our community to say clearly that those responsible have nothing to offer. I would appeal to anyone with information about these incidents to assist police in bringing the perpetrators to justice."
