A 12-year-old boy was recovering in hospital today after falling 15 feet on to rocks at the Causeway coast.

Coleraine Coastguard said the child had a “lucky escape” after the incident at Castlerock.

It is understood he sustained leg and head injuries.

The alarm was raised just after 6 o’clock last night and the Coleraine Coastguard Rescue Team, backed up by colleagues from Ballycastle rushed to the scene.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service along with Rapid Response Vehicle was also on the scene.

The boy was stretchered to safety and is now in the Causeway Hospital.

The coastguard said the incident demonstrated again the need for caution near cliff edges and slopes.
