A body has been found by detectives investigating the murder of a Co Down man.

William (Pat) McCormick, 55, was last seen alive in Comber on May 30.

The PSNI launched a murder inquiry following the father-of-four's disappearance.

They believe he was killed in or around the vicinity of flats in Castle Street, Comber.

On Wednesday, a PSNI spokeswoman announced that detectives investigating the murder had recovered a body in the Ballygowan area.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Montgomery, who is leading the investigation, said the body has not yet been identified.

"I can confirm that a man's body has been found in the Ballygowan area. I am unable to confirm the identity of the man until a formal identification process has taken place,'' he said.

"A post mortem is also being conducted.''

A number of land and water-based searches have taken place for Mr McCormick.

The charity Crimestoppers is offering a £10,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of his body.
