Belsonic 2022: Belfast gets set to welcome some of the biggest artists to the stage
Acts as diverse as Calvin Harris, Liam Gallagher, Iron Maiden, Tiesto and Dermot Kennedy are ready to rock Ormeau Park
Belsonic is back in Belfast tomorrow as the biggest music festival in Northern Ireland gets underway in Ormeau Park.
Veteran metallers Iron Maiden are first up, bringing their explosive live show to the city before the cream of artists from across the globe arrive over the course of the next fortnight.
The likes of Calvin Harris, Liam Gallagher, Lewis Capaldi and Dermot Kennedy, plus many more, will rock up to the 15,000 capacity venue for what promises to be two weeks of huge musical talent.
For co-organiser Alan Simms, he feels the eclectic nature of the event is a key component of Belsonic's success.
"It covers a very broad range of people. Having that broad range is what really makes it and what gives Belsonic its appeal,@ says Alan, who along with Joe Dougan, is the man behind it all.
"If there's one thing the last couple of years has shown us, it's that you can't beat live music.
"You can't beat going out with your friends, listening to your favourite bands with your friends and just forgetting about your problems for the night.
"If we're going to airdrop into the city, we want to try and engage with as many different types of people that live in the city as possible so it becomes their event.
"That always informs the choices we make we make when we're choosing acts to come and play."
Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher will be back in town after having to cancel a planned show last year for somewhat unusual reasons.
"Liam was supposed to play in September, but managed to fall out of a helicopter and broke his nose," Alan explains.
"After the two years we've had, the wasn't one of the reasons i was expecting to have for a cancellation, but it was very rock 'n' roll!"
The younger Gallagher - fresh off the back of a third successive number one album - played to over 160,000 fans at Knebworth two weekends ago.
"I'm looking forward to that, he's playing loads of Oasis songs at the minutes and he'll be bussing after playing Knebworth. That's going to be huge."
Unfortunately, if you were looking to check out Calvin Harris, Picture This or Lewis Capaldi, tickets are already sold out for those three shows.
