In 2016/17 16 people lost their lives at work, 12 more than the same period in 2015/16.

According to the body, six farm deaths were recorded in the past 12 months but farming accidents have almost halved since 2012.

There were also three deaths on construction sites here.

There was a 13% decrease in workplace injuries, 16 hundred and 80 people were injured in the workplace last year but many of those may have been life-changing.

The Health and Safety Executive said it had carried out almost 6000 inspections, and served 144 formal enforcement notices where very poor practice was found.
