It can sometimes be difficult to find tasty and exciting vegetarian food. Belfast isn't exactly known as the most vegan-vegetarian friendly city, but there are lots of delicious plant-based meals on offer if you can find them.

To help you navigate we've complied a list of great vegetarian-friendly restaurants.

Celebrities across world including Beyonce and Jay-Z are making the switch. Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and Ariana Grande have recently adopted vegetarian diets.

There are plenty of fantastic restaurants in Northern Ireland showing us meat-free food can be as vibrant and exciting to eat.

Jumon, Fountain Street

Jumon is Belfast's latest vegetarian hotspot joining the list of alternative, health conscious places popping up in the city. It offers a mostly plant based menu with an asian twist inspired by owner Nox who is from Bangkok.

Coppi, Cathedral Quarter

Right in the heart of the buzzing Cathedral Quarter, Coppi is Belfast's first cichetti bacari restaurant. Coppi has proved to be hugely popular since opening in 2012 and offers a great selection of Italian and Mediterranean cuisine served in the coolest of surroundings. They offer a sample vegan menu that includes all the usual Italian options like risotto, pasta and pizza.

Umi Falafel, Botanic Avenue

A staple food in the Middle East, this new venture is proving very popular in Belfast, (for those that may not know) falafel is a healthy, vegetarian food made from crushed chickpeas. Umi Falafel offers lots more than what's in the name, top picks include their grilled halloumi sandwich, sweet potato fries, spiced wedges and tasty salads. Check out those stuffed filo rolls!

387 Ormeau Road

An excellent spot with proper Northern Irish fifteens to die for. One of the city's newest cafe's specialising in vegan coffee, tray bakes, brunch and cakes. You're going to want to give their vegetarian sausage rolls and oat milk lattes a go!

Boojum - Botanic Ave, Victoria Square, Lisburn Road, Great Victoria Street

Boojum has introduced another incredible plant-based product for Veganuary 2023. Available until the end of January, the chain's delicious new 100% plant-based pork Alt Pastor dish is to be rolled out in all Boojum stores across NI.

Al Pastor is a popular and traditional Central Mexican dish. Typically made with seasoned and marinated spit-grilled slices of pork, it has a very distinct flavour profile that has been replicated by Boojum's own chefs, using plant-based meat alternative, MOCK® Pork.

Shed Bistro

The team's ethos at Shed Bistro is to deliver hand-crafted contemporary dishes in a relaxed space. Their funky flavours and fresh ingredients will leave your mouth watering as you glance through the menu. Don't miss their panko breaded baked aubergine - it's incredible!

EDŌ

Just look at that dessert - we'll take 5 please! The menu at EDO includes everything from tasty tapas to yummy sharing plates. Vegetarians can enjoy vegetable paella, batatas bravas and classic tortillas, all washed down with a show-stopping cocktail...or two!
