Derry Girls actress Saoirse-Monica Jackson has been busy working on her next project, The Decameron, which is available today on Netflix.

The new comedy series also stars Sex Education's Tanya Reynolds.

According to Netflix, “The Decameron Is Like ‘Love Island, but Back in the Day.”

Saoirse plays the role of Misia, the codependent servant of Pampinea, who is the next Lady of the Villa, played by Zosia Mamet (Girls, The Flight Attendant).

Having spent months filming in Italy, Monica Jackson’s Derry accent continues in this series too. Check it out this sneak peek 👇

Sharing the trailer on social media, Saoirse writes: “I loved making this show with all these crazy, brilliant & hilarious people. I can’t wait for you all to see it ! Out July 25th on @netflix 🐀🩸👑 x”

What’s The Decameron about?

First published in Italy in the mid-14th century, Giovanni Boccaccio’s The Decameron tells the story of a group of nobles and their servants sheltering in the grand Villa Santa outside Florence as the Black Death rages in 1348.

To pass the time, they take turns telling each other stories that range from witty to debauched. The series has a similar premise, but with a twist right out of Lord of the Flies — as time goes on and social rules wear thin, the orgy of riches and liquor collapses into a struggle for survival.
