25-year-old magician and content creator, Joel Mawhinney has been announced as the newest presenter of Blue Peter.

Born and raised in Bangor, Co Down, Joel becomes the 41st host of the long-running CBBC children’s show.

Mawhinney will start in his new role on Friday November 11, co-hosting alongside Richie Driss, Mwaka Mudenda and Henry the Dog.

Breaking the news to his 620K Instagram followers, Joel shared a pic with the caption "BIG NEWS…I’m Blue Peter Presenter Number 41! 🤯

"I’ve been keeping this a secret for far too long, I’m so excited to share it with you all. Time to add some magic to your tv screens"

He follows in the footsteps of fellow Northern Ireland presenters Adam Beales, whose left the show earlier this year, the late Caron Keating, and Zoe Salmon, who is also from Bangor.

Mawhinney first appeared as a guest on Blue Peter in 2018 and also guest presented the show over summer 2022 when he taught some of his co-presenters magic tricks.

With a TikTok following of over 16M, fans have gone wild over the news!

You can see Joel's first appearance on Blue Peter as a presenter on Friday 11th November at 5 pm on CBBC and BBC iPlayer.
