6 trends we all did in the 90s that now make us cringe
Can you imagine if some of these come back in style 🤣
Last updated 2nd May 2021
This bank holiday weekend on Downtown, we're taking a trip down memory lane with four days of non-stop old skool anthems and dance floor classics.
We're talking about a time when Internet required a plug in the wall and movies came from Blockbuster.
Some would say the 90s and early 00s was the best era for music - with artists such as ATB, N Trance and Ce CePeniston.
How to tune in to Downtown's Old Skool Weekend:
To listen ask your smart speaker to ‘play Downtown Radio’ plus listeners in the Belfast, Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus and Holywood areas can now also tune in on the new frequency 103.4FM

Boyband Hysteria
The hype and madness that followed bands like Take That, Backstreet Boys and N-Sync was HUGE! It echoed something similar to the Beetles fanbase in the 60s.
Novelty Mixtapes
Back in the pre-internet days, recording a mixtape was just like downloading music from iTunes or Spotify, although instead of an iPod it's on a cassette tape. Cheesy films often included romantic mixtapes that played cringey love songs.
Choregraphed Dance Routines
This one has come back full circle, with kids nowadays obsessing over TikTok dances and trendy new moves. It was a little more embarrassing back in the day, with bangers like the Macarena, Running Man and Rock the Boat.
Double Denim
Should you or shouldn't you double up on your denim? Is it still stylish if the Hadid sisters pull it off?
Terrible Make-Up
Speaking of style…looking back on some old skool pics caught on nights out with a digital camera (remember those) fake tan, makeup and hair has definitely improved over time. From bright blue eyeshadow, a million layers of mascara, foundation buffed lips and dodgy spray tan, the best part is we all thought we looked amazing!
