Midland are a band that are on the up. Formed last year in Dripping Springs, Texas, the smooth singin’, honkey tonkin’, guitar jamin’ trio have set a stage that will be hard to compete with.

Their debut single ‘Drinkin’ Problem’ climbed the Billboard US Hot Country Songs chart, peaking at No. 5. But it was No. 1 in Canada. Next on the agenda is their debut album, released just today. We’ve been given a small taster of what to expect from ‘On The Rocks’ already which has been hailed to sound quite like 80s George Strait. Songs like 'Drinkin' Problem', 'At Least You Cried' and 'Check Cashin' Country' have that country sound we all know and love.

Band members Jess Carson, Cameron Duddy and Mark Wystrach all have had input into the album that sounds pretty timeless where their main goal was to make a collection of music and songs that were inspired by the journey that brought them to where they are today.

The band told CMT in a recent interview that “We wanted to make a complete album,” Wystrach said during the interview. “I feel like, especially in country music, people don’t seem to do that … they’re just trying to piece together singles. We were writing an album that is autobiographical. This character that is the star of this album is a collective version of the three of us. And it’s very much told from the first person perspective of what it’s like to be in this band.”

This album, without a doubt will be well received and is sure to make an impact on the Country Music charts. It has a timeless feel and a twang that will have people paying attention right across the genre as a whole.

Also just this week it’s been announced that Midland will join Little Big Town on the Breakers Tour alongside Kacey Musgraves.

The album will feature as Kirstie’s ‘Album of The Week’ for her incoming week of shows on Downtown Country, so be sure to get a listen and let us know what you think of it.
