Earlier today Little Big Town’s achievements were set in concrete as they were inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville. Initiated in a ceremony led by Keith Urban, the band of four posed for pictures alongside Urban as their shiny new star was unveiled.
Little Big Town have come a long way since they won Top New Vocal Duo/Group at the 2006 ACM awards and have had the pleasure of touring with the likes of George Strait, Martina McBride, Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban and Luke Bryan. They have scored five No. 1 singles and in 2014 were invited by Reba McEntire to join the iconic Grand Ole Opry. More recently they became the first act to land a residency at the world famous Ryman Auditorium, the winter home of the Opry.
At today’s ceremony Urban took to the stage to tell the crowd about first hearing ‘Boondocks’, the band’s first single almost 12 years ago. “I was fascinated to meet the people who made that sound, and I realized what it was. It’s the closest thing to a family band that you’ll ever meet,” Urban recalled.
“It’s that sound that’s not connected by blood or last name — well, in the case of Jimi (Westbrook) and Karen (Fairchild), now it is. But there’s no connection, except the spirit,” he said. “That’s what I feel when I hear Little Big Town.”
Each of the four band members received a plaque, and upon accepting them, Karen Fairchild had a word of inspiration for anyone chasing their own musical dreams; ‘We were driving these same streets, and now we’re here with you guys. It really can happen. You just have to believe. You’ve got to have faith and perseverance. This is for all the dreamers out there, and we look forward to standing up here and handing this plaque to someone else.
