Huge thank you to our Cash for Kids Day beneficiaries
We'd like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone involved 👏
Last updated 27th May 2022
Proudly sponsored by Ulster Bank, this year's Cash for Kids Day will focus on ‘supporting families in crisis’.
Energy price increases, cost of living increases, the post-Covid impact, means more families have been tipped into poverty.
Many have now reached crisis point, facing the very real choice of whether to ‘heat or eat’.
That's why it's so important today that we come together and try to make a difference!
Cash for Kids Day in partnership with Ulster Bank want to help communities through these challenging times.
Cash for Kids will grant 100% of everything you donate today to families with children to cover essentials like food and warm clothing.
Local charities across the country got in touch, to share why they believe Cash for Kids is such an important cause.
Elaine Burns from the Ardoyne Association said:
“Covid has had a devasting impact on us all, so many people lost their jobs, so there was a significant loss in household income. We’ve now been hit with a severe cost of living crisis, what people are going through right now is both unbelievable and unbearable. People are choosing between heating and eating, you think of this in third world countries, not here.
“If a mummy or daddy don’t have the money to keep the house warm, the electric is cut back, there’s no wi-fi or internet to support the child’s education. But through Cash for Kids help, we’ve been able to assist with some of those issues for those in desperate need.”
Helen Marks, a Family Support Officer with Tiny Life added:
“Unfortunately, in recent months, parents are being forced to choose when to go see their children in hospital because they cannot afford the transport. One mother I spoke with yesterday mentioned that she chose to move her kids into her mother’s home, because they could only afford to heat one home. I’ve never heard of families having to make such choices as these.
“At Tiny Life, we supply clothes for the families as some were suggesting it’s easier than using the washing machine and tumble dryer. Some of the young children leaving hospital are on oxygen or are tube-fed, so having electricity and warm water for cleaning is essential at home. The money we receive from Cash for Kids makes a huge difference to families all over Northern Ireland.”
The Chairperson of Me You & Them in Dugannon, Glena McDowel Khan commented:
“Our work provides support for families with a low income, we try to promote positive mental health in our community. We’ve been working with families that see the parents go without food, so their children can eat.
“1 in 4 children in the Dungannon area are living in poverty, only for Cash for Kids and the donors, we wouldn’t be able to help support these families in our community. It’s just amazing that this service is even here for us to be able to take advantage of.
“To anyone who is thinking about donating, please be sure that you are changing lives, you are keeping families together, healthy and safe.”
