The Royal Mint celebrate 10 years of The Snowman and The Snowdog with special 50p coin
It's available to buy now!
The Royal Mint has announced some exciting new 50p coins to celebrate 10 years of The Snowman and The Snowdog. The new design comes just a few years after the special Snowman 50p coins were released, showing the Snowman hugging the little boy James.
This time around the new design shows the Snowman hugging the Snowdog, and it is available in various versions, including Brilliant Uncirculated, Brilliant Uncirculated Colour, Silver Proof Coloured and Gold Proof.
Speaking about the new coin, Rebecca Morgan, Director of Collector Services at The Royal Mint said: "The Royal Mint first celebrated the heart-warming tale of The Snowman™ on official UK coins in 2018. Today, we are delighted to introduce another collectable 50p coin to the series celebrating ten years since the release of The Snowman and The Snowdog. This year’s design is just as charming as ever and features an exclusive design by award-winning illustrator Robin Shaw.
"The Snowman and The Snowdog coin beautifully captures the festive magic of a tale that has become a much-loved classic. We hope collectors will love the design as much as we do at The Royal Mint with the coin making the ideal Christmas gift for loved ones."
Prices start at £11 and go right up to £1,195 for the Gold Proof which is available to buy on the Royal Mint website.
Back in 2020, The Royal Mint released The Snowman 50p coin. The design showed The Snowman and James hugging, reflecting how the timeless tale brings people together at Christmas.
To launch the special coin, The Royal Mint released a Sketch-a-long video, where the designer of the coin Robin Shaw - who is an award-winning animator and illustrator, provides hints and tips to help animators create their own Snowman drawings.
The classic Christmas story was first published in 1978 and adapted for television in 1982 where The Snowman was brought to life and watching the programme became a Christmas tradition for many families up and down the country.
