Planet Earth reveals what happened to the troubled baby turtles after viewers were left in tears
The baby turtles headed towards the city instead of the sea.
Fans of the popular TV series Planet Earth II were left in tears after the most recent episode showed disorientated baby turtles walking towards a city instead of the sea.
The last episode in the series narrated by the nation's favourite David Attenborough, concentrated on 'Cities' and how the urban jungle has affected animals around the world.
Part of the programme followed hundreds of baby turtles moments after they had hatched. 80% of them were disorientated by the lights from the cities, confusing them with the moon as they were filmed walking inland where they were caught by predators such as crabs and trapped in storm drains.
With their fate not revealed in the programme, hundreds of viewers took to social media to find out what happened to the doomed baby turtles.
Fortunately though Planet Earth tweeted reassurance that every turtle that they saw was saved and put into the sea, putting the 12 million viewers' minds at rest.
