The Foreign Office is trolled after a bridge 'mix-up'

Is it the Forth Bridge or the Queensferry Crossing?

Earlier today the Foreign Office tweeted some exciting news, but they didn't get the reaction they had hoped for.

The tweet read, 'Opening in 2017, the 2.7 km Queensferry Crossing will be the longest 3 tower cable-stayed bridge in the world', however the photo they posted wasn't of the Queensferry Crossing. The photo was in fact of the Forth Bridge which opened in 1890, in all fairness they DID detail that on the photo - but that didn't stop people responding with amusing tweets.

The responses started off with photos of 'alternative' Queensferry Crossings but quickly progressed to other Scottish landmarks...

Including 'Edinburgh and Stirling Castle'...

And 'Loch Ness'.

Eventually the Foreign Office responded to the tweets saying, 'Any misunderstanding is water under the bridge(s)'.
