Fast-food worker becomes internet sensation after feeding homeless
Robert Aitken spent 3 hours handing out free burgers he'd paid for
A McDonalds worker's become an internet sensation after spending £70 of his own money to hand out free cheeseburgers and fries to homeless people in Edinburgh.
Robert Aitken travelled from his home in Glenrothes on Friday night and spent three hours dishing out food to those in need in the city centre.
Photos of him handing out the burgers have been viewed more than 70,000 times on Facebook.
The 24-year-old had previously served up sandwiches and drinks.
He's now set up a JustGiving page to help provide rough sleepers with a warm meal, something to drink and a sleeping bag.
So far it's raised more than £2,200 pounds - far more than its original £500 target.
On it, Robert talks about what happened on Friday, writing: "Finally heading home from Edinburgh after my very first feeding the homeless ambition - going into McDonald and spending £70 of my own cash in order to see these HUMAN BEINGS fight one more day.
"I met to many amazing people, with so many amazing, humourous and sometimes horrible stories. Three hours I have been out and I am freezing, I cannot imagine how they last the cold nights out there.
"I met a man named Davie, his story hit my heart the most. He had been serving his country for 13 years and had to leave because he had PTSD. Coming back to civilization after so many years wasn't easy for him. He began to break down, a grown man breaking down because he has nothing.
"I became overwhelmed and began to cry myself. I hugged him and said you're not alone. These small words can change someone's thoughts about life and the future."
