A second safety review of changes to Clevedon seafront will take place, once the work is finished - as more than 6,000 sign a petition against the changes.

A series of wavy lines are being put on the road to try and segregate cars from parking spaces and cyclists.

North Somerset Council tell us once finished, the scheme will undergo a 'further safety audit' and the current changes follow a consultation.

Simon Williams from the RAC says the lines aren’t even in the highway code and claims it is a solution to a problem which 'didn't exist'

In response, North Somerset council say once finished the current 400 metre section could form part of a 13 mile route linking Clevedon with Weston- super-Mare

A petition against the changes can be found here |newtab), started by David Eggleton.

He wrote: "As a resident on Clevedon Seafront the proposed changes will make it difficult for me and other residents to access our private parking due to road width to manoeuvre cars into driveways.

"Visitors to the seafront will find it difficult to park anywhere under the proposed plans especially on weekends when it is extremely busy."

A spokesperson for North Somerset Council said: "The short stretch of wavy line at the roadside is a design feature that creates an unconventional highway environment with the combined effect of both slowing traffic down and discouraging parking at the roadside.

"The markings are not yet complete and once the road’s top surface has been applied – as shown in the image – the full effect will be realised. This work will be carried out in the spring.

"Safety is a priority and a road safety audit was completed when the scheme was designed. There will also be a further one undertaken when it’s completed."
