A tortoise that went missing nine months ago has been found, just a mile from his home in Cumbria.

Rachel Etches had owned Leonardo for 13 years when he went missing in her garden in Ulverston.

In July last year, a social media campaign was set up to find Leonardo, with Rachel saying she "thought for sure we wouldn't be seeing him again".

Fast-forward nine months later and a dog walker spotted him walking down the street and returned him to his baffled owners.

He was handed into Ulverston's Little Beasties pet shop, who had helped with the campaign. They said he was unscathed, except for a sore eye.

In a post on social media, Rachel said they were the "proud owner of the worlds best escape artist" and "welcome home you little bugger".
