The Metropolitan Police has confirmed a 17 year-old boy has been charged with murder following the death of a teenager in Croydon.

The teenager, who can't be named for legal reasons, is due to appear at youth court in Croydon, later today.

He's been charged with murder and possession of a knife.

Police were called to Wellesley Road at around 8.30am on Wednesday 27th September to reports of a stabbing.

Officers were at the scene within two minutes of the call being received. They worked with emergency service colleagues to provide first aid.

Despite their efforts, 15 year-old Elianne Andam sadly died at the scene.

An investigation was launched by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command. A 17-year-old male was arrested in New Addington around 75 minutes after the incident and charged as above.

On Thursday 28th September, police recovered a knife in Cedar Road, Croydon.

Elianne’s family continue to be supported by specially trained officers.

They visited the scene yesterday to lay flowers and pay tribute to the teenager.

Her death has shocked the local community with a vigil held last night.
